Considering a classroom course in Peterborough?

Our courses are taught live on Zoom. Your instructor leads a scheduled class, explains the material and works through it with you and the other learners.

If you prefer a classroom because you want to ask questions and learn through discussion, those are part of the online course too.

01

Ask your instructor as you learn

Raise questions while topics are being explained and discuss how the course applies to everyday site-management decisions.

02

Learn with other people

Take part in group exercises, case studies and discussions with fellow learners. Your instructor guides the work through the course.

03

Follow a full training week

The five-day course runs Monday to Friday, 08:30–17:00 UK time, with breaks. Arrange cover for your work and attend every day in full.

04

Avoid travelling to a training centre

Join from a suitable space at home or work. You do not need a daily journey to a venue or accommodation for the course.

Joining your online course

Prepare before the first session so you can concentrate on the training when it starts.

If you need learning, accessibility or technical support, tell us before booking so we can discuss the course requirements with you.

01

Read your joining instructions

Check your course email before the first day. The instructions explain how to access the class and course materials. Each learner needs their own email address.

02

Prepare your computer

Use your own laptop or desktop computer with Zoom, a working camera and microphone, and reliable internet. Test your setup in advance; a phone alone is not suitable.

03

Be ready for the full day

Choose a quiet space, have your original photo ID ready and follow the accepted-ID guidance in your joining instructions. Join at the scheduled time and take part throughout.

Planning your training from Peterborough

If your employer has asked you to find an SMSTS course in Peterborough, check whether they need the CITB qualification or specifically require attendance at a physical venue. The courses available here are live online, so your working location does not tie you to a Peterborough classroom date.

Set aside the full training days and choose a quiet place where you can take part without site interruptions. Have your computer, webcam, microphone and internet ready before the first session. A mobile phone alone is not suitable for the course.

What the 5-day course covers

SMSTS develops the knowledge needed to manage health and safety on construction sites. You will work through topics including:

  • Health and safety responsibilities and relevant legislation.
  • Risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
  • Managing site hazards, including work at height and excavations.
  • Occupational health, welfare and environmental considerations.
  • Communicating expectations and encouraging safe working practices.

Teaching includes discussion and exercises, followed by assessment. You must attend the full course and meet the assessment requirements to receive the certificate. Read the full SMSTS course details for the syllabus, entry requirements and assessment information.

SMSTS refresher training for Peterborough learners

The two-day refresher is for people who already hold a valid SMSTS certificate. Arrange the refresher before your certificate expires. If it has already expired, you will need the full course again.

The refresher is also taught live online. It covers updates and reinforces the knowledge needed to manage site safety. Check the refresher course requirements before booking.

Coordinating training across Peterborough and other locations

If you are arranging training for colleagues in Peterborough, Cambridge, Norwich and Chelmsford, the live online format means you can compare the same course options without finding a separate classroom for each location. Check suitable dates and each learner’s certificate status before booking. Everyone needs their own suitable equipment and time to attend the full course.

Choosing dates and booking

Use the booking links above to check current course dates and complete your booking. The full course is £380 ex VAT; the refresher is £240 ex VAT. If you are arranging places for several learners or are unsure which course you need, contact our team or call 0808 164 2780.

Questions before you book

Clear answers about the format, qualification and course options for Peterborough learners.

Is this a classroom SMSTS course in Peterborough?

The courses listed here are live online with an instructor. You do not travel to a Peterborough training venue. If your employer specifically requires a physical classroom, check that requirement before booking.

Will I be learning on my own?

You join your instructor and other learners live on Zoom. You can ask questions, discuss site scenarios and work through group exercises together. Teaching takes place at scheduled times, and your participation is part of the course.

Can I attend while carrying on with my normal work?

You must set aside the course days for training and assessment. The full course runs Monday to Friday, 08:30–17:00 UK time, with breaks, and requires all five days of attendance. Arrange cover for your site duties so you can concentrate and take part throughout.

If you choose the two-day refresher, you must attend both days in full.

Which course should I choose?

Choose the 5-day course if this is your first SMSTS qualification. The two-day refresher is for holders of a current SMSTS certificate. If your certificate has expired, you need the full course again. Read the full course details or check refresher eligibility.

What equipment do I need?

Each learner needs their own laptop or desktop computer, working webcam and microphone, reliable internet connection, Zoom access and individual email address. Use a quiet space where you can join in without interruptions. A phone alone is not suitable.

Read your joining instructions and test your setup before the first day. Have your original photo ID ready, following the accepted-ID guidance in those instructions.

What if I have not used Zoom before?

Your joining instructions explain how to access the live class and course materials. Read them in advance and test your camera, microphone and connection before the course begins.

If you are unsure whether your setup is suitable or need technical support, ask the training team before booking. This lets you check the requirements before choosing a date.

How do I check available dates?

Select “View full-course dates” or “View refresher dates” above. Each link opens the relevant booking page, where you can check the current options before booking.

How long is the SMSTS certificate valid?

The CITB SMSTS certificate is valid for five years following successful completion. Complete the refresher before it expires to maintain your certification.
